Here at G L Murphy we have specialised in the manufacture of cable stripping machines at our Menston works since 1949 and we believe we are the longest established manufacturer of wire and cable strippers for the scrap metal and wire reclamation industry in Europe if not maybe the world.

The machines have been constantly developed over the years through the “Simplex”, “Twinstrip”, and “Rapide” models, the current Rapide Mk 3 being the result of continual development in response to feedback from users throughout the world. We now have many hundreds of machines worldwide including France where it is known as a “denudeur de Cables”, Germany where it is the “Kabeltrennmaschine”,Norway (“Kabelskrellemaskin”), as well as Australia , NewZealand and the USA, where it is just goes by the name of cable stripper or industrial wire strippers (industrial cable stripper). Several machines are in use in the Gulf states,including Dubai,UAE and Qatar.

As well as scrap metal processors, we have machines in operation with cable and wire manufacturers, who use the machine to reclaim faulty or out of date cable; These days all component parts of the reclaimed cable can be recycled, not only the copper or aluminium conductors, steel wire armour , lead sheathing etc. but also the plastics and PVC used to coat the conductors, (though to maximise value this needs sorting into colours and type.)

The principal virtues of the Rapide mark 3 cable stripping machine are its high efficiency (designed to work faster than the operator can feed cable through it) and simplicity of operation and maintenance. Its design means it is very easy to clean and change the feed rollers which on any machine will clog periodically. It is essential that the rollers and indeed the cutting area can be cleared quickly and easily, which certainly is the case with the Murphy machine. This applies too to changing the blade, which takes only 2/3 minutes.

Our machine strips cable from 4mm to 90mm using the extremely tough and durable blade, but it can uniquely be supplied with an optional crushing attachment which can allow even smaller cable and even flat twin and earth cable to be processed. However even our machine cannot handle very small soft multicored cable such as telecommunication wire

Our all enveloping guard ensures user protection, which is further enhanced by the variable feed guide, which whilst keeping the operators hands well away from the cutting area also enables the machine to become a one man operation, as feeding is so easy.
